The Same Trees

The Same Trees

My grandfather and his brother
planted a row of trees
over half a century ago
becoming shade for pedestrians
and students
on the sidewalk
to and from school

My grandfather and his brother
lived as next door neighbors
for so many years
until sickness and bad health
came around with old age
and prevented
things from staying

the same trees
I am told in passing
by the winds of many changes
still stand in service
as shade yesterday and today

Better Poem

Photograph by Paul Hsu Better Poem I am classless. I have lost the present. One day you may find me laid low in the dust and not immediately recognize me off and on the road to thousands elsewhere. by Paul Hsu 4-1-16
